Tipton told he must improve

SOCCER: Matt Tipton has been told that his performances must improve if he is to keep his place in Macclesfield Town's attack.

Manager David Moss dropped Tipton to the bench for Monday's trip to Lincoln to give Neil Robinson his Football League debut.

Lee Glover and Kyle Lightbourne also figured in the 3-0 defeat.

And Moss is to give all four strikers a run-out in the reserves against Rochdale at the Moss Rose this afternoon (Wednesday) before picking two to start against Bournemouth this weekend.

The Macc midfielder will also play Chris Priest in the reserves after dropping him for Monday's match.

Moss said: "Matt's last two performances have been poor.

"His first-half performance at Leyton Orient and his display against Wrexham were not good enough.

"I thought that Lee Glover might help Neil Robinson settle in against Lincoln, so I played them up front together, but that didn't work either.

"So they will all play for 45 minutes for the reserves on Wednesday."

But Moss added that he was impressed by Robinson, who signed from non-league Prescot Cables last month.

The manager said: "I thought Neil Robinson did very well. He gave me a lot of encouragement.

"He's going to need bedding in, so I hope that people don't expect miracles from him.

"It's going to take him a while to adjust to the pace of the game."
