Fanpower sealed Robbo move

SOCCER: Macclesfield Town directors have said a big 'thank you' to two supporters groups following the £12,000 transfer of striker Neil Robinson.

The 21-year-old has completed his move from Prescott Cables - but the move wouldn't have taken place without the efforts of both the Macc Town Supporters' Club and the Silk Alliance.

Both sets of fans have provided the money for the initial down-payment of £6,000 and have pledged to raise the funding for the additional six £1,000 monthly payments. The two groups are also planning to help fund Robinson's wages during his two-year contract.

Chairman Colin Garlick paid tribute to the fans saying: "We'd like to thank both the Supporters' Club and the Silk Alliance for providing us with the funding.

"With our current financial problems this transfer couldn't have taken place without help from the fans.

"Their acts show just what a unique club Macclesfield Town is. Their actions have demonstrated the true community values at Moss Rose and the real spirit we have.

"It's a fantastic gesture by both groups and it's greatly appreciated by everyone at the club.

"Both groups are real fans of the club and we value their contributions immensely."

As part of the deal Macc Town have also agreed to a sell-on clause and will play Prescot Cables in a pre-season friendly next summer.

The supporters' club hold various functions during the season and run a successful half-time draw amongst their many activities.

The Silk Alliance hold regular meetings and are currently selling replica James Irlam trucks in the Macc Town livery.
