Don't get carried away

SOCCER: David Moss has warned fans not to put too much store in pre-season results - with Macclesfield beating Witton Albion 2-0 on Wednesday night.

The Silkmen overcame the UniBond Premier outfit with goals from Danny Adams and Matt Woolley.

This followed opening victories against Abbey Hey, Congleton and Stafford, which have encouraged fans but Moss is merely concentrating on finding his best 11.

Moss says he has yet to decide on his ideal line-up to face York at Moss Rose on August 10 and has told his players they all have the chance to force their way into the reckoning.

"It's so far, so good," said Moss. "But I don't get carried away by pre-season results. In the same way if we'd lost three on the bounce I wouldn't be getting carried away either.

"I hope people don't get carried away if we beat Port Vale or Crewe.

"Pre-season is all about getting players right. I hope I've planned it right so far.

"With respect to teams like Abbey Hey we've started off gradually and then built up to the likes of Port Vale. It's the way I've always done things.

"I haven't decided for definite on my eleven to face York yet. I still don't know what my strongest defence is yet. There's still time for players to get into the side."

Moss's defensive dilemma seems to centre on whether to partner Michael Welch or Dave Ridler with Darren Tinson. Both are set to get chances to impress against both Vale and Crewe.
