Batsmen hold nerve for a win

CRICKET: Lindow 119 Bollington 120-6

Steve Henshall and Mike Bunting posted a valuable partnership to give Bollington victory in this local derby.

Bollington won the toss and invited Lindow to bat.

This looked a poor decision with 48 runs being scored off the first six overs before Mahmood was caught by Steve Henshall off Neil Robinson for a rapid 43.

Robinson struck two overs later for his second wicket, Ged McKernan taking the catch.

Hodges and Butt put together a decent stand, but with the introduction of Keith Gilder and Gary Wood, wickets began to tumble.

Wood took three wickets for ten runs from nine overs by exploiting the conditions.

The variation in pace from Gilder took the honours with five for 16 from ten overs, leaving Lindow all out for 119.

The Bollington reply started with Gary Wood taking 21 runs off the first over.

The pace of the game slowed and Bollington were made to struggle for every run as wickets began to fall.

Steve Henshall and Mike Bunting then put together a very valuable stand and showed grit and determination to pull Bollington back into the match.

The contribution of 21 for Bunting and 24 for Henshall was perhaps the best of the batting. With Ged McKernan (15 not out), they took Bollington to victory.

This Saturday, Bollington entertain Lymm at the recreation ground (2pm start).
