Irwin's not for the Silkmen

SOCCER: Denis Irwin is being ruled out of a move to Macclesfield - again.

Irwin, whose playing contract at Manchester United is not being renewed, was linked with the manager's job at Macc after Gil Prescott stepped aside last October.

But the 36-year-old full-back is reported to be considering an offer to stay at Old Trafford as a coach.

Macclesfield manager David Moss said there was no chance of him joining the Silkmen.

Moss said: "I think Denis will find himself a First Division club if he wants to continue his playing career."
