Silkmen remain cautious after Lambert sale

8/ 5/2002

SOCCER: The Silkmen are still keeping a careful watch on their finances despite the sale of Rickie Lambert to Stockport.

The club have yet to offer new contracts to Steve Wilson, Kevin Keen, Karl Munroe and Michael Welch because of the uncertainty over TV money.

Macclesfield were due to receive around £250,000 over the next 12 months from ITV Digital, which shut down its pay-channel service last week.

Silkmen chairmen Colin Garlick said that ITV Digital's contract wrangle with the Football League needed to be sorted out soon.

He said: "This is affecting all clubs, not just those in the Third Division.

"The First Division clubs will be hit the worst, because they stood to get the most money from the deal - around £2.5m next year.

"As for Macclesfield, the money from selling Rickie Lambert has helped us, but we cannot be complacent."
