Macc chief urges caution

SOCCER: Five successive wins cannot persuade Silkmen manager David Moss to turn his thoughts to the play-offs.

On his arrival at Moss Rose, the relatively new gaffer inherited a side second from bottom of division three. Two months down the line and Macc are now 10 points away from a play-off place.

Moss said: ''I'm enjoying it at the moment, but if we lost five games on the bounce the fans would surely be calling me other names.

"At the moment I'm thinking about nothing but the next game at Shrewsbury on Friday, and certainly not the play-offs. This game has a habit of kicking you where it hurts.''

Macclesfield's win over an impressive Leyton Orient was a solid display, although new loan signing Steve Macauley was partly at fault for the conceded goal.

Moss added: ''Steve is a solid professional. It was a mix up and Steve should have dealt with it.

"It was really a bit of a disaster for him. But he got over it and got in some great headers throughout the game.''

One player who did catch the eye was match winning scorer Chris Byrne.

Moss added: ''On his day Chris is as good as any attacking midfielder in the division, he does what he does very well, that is scoring goals from midfield and at the moment he is getting better with every game.

"I said he would get into double figures this season and he is now getting into his stride.''
