Moss overjoyed at Hatters hammering

26/11/2001

SOCCER: Macclesfield Town 4 Luton Town 1

New boss Dave Moss' first home game in charge of Macc produced a stunning display against former club Luton Town.

Macclesfield were in front from the tenth minute when striker Andy McAvoy's cross set up Rickie Lambert for the first of his three goals.

The Silkmen continued to bombard Luton's goal for the remainder of the half with Chris Priest and Kevin Keen forcing great saves from the Luton keeper.

But Luton equalised against the run of play in the 32nd minute. Steve Howard's 12-yard looping header ending up in the back of the Macc net.

The equaliser spurred Macc on and Chris Byrne restored their lead with a glorious 57th minute effort from 35 yards.

Lambert blasted another 35-yard goal in the 64th minute, while Macc's keeper Steve Wilson produced a superb double save from Matthew Spring and Steve Howard in the 73rd minute.

Macclesfield ensured all three points during injury time when Lambert launched an 18-yard blast into the far corner of the goal.
