Macc nearly blew a 13-point lead in their clash with the North East outfit.
The hosts raced into a 19-7 half-time lead thanks to tries from Jamie Miller and Matt Brolin, alongside three Rob Oliver penalties.
The visitors restarted the game with two quick penalties before Miller grabbed a second touchdown - which put Macclesfield 13 points clear.
Darlington didn't fold and instead produced a competent fightback with a converted touchdown and penalty.
The final 10 minutes were a tense affair but some determined defending kept the visitors out.
