Silkmen fall to third straight loss

29/10/2001

SOCCER: York City 1 Macclesfield Town 0

Macc returned from York empty-handed despite the best efforts of keeper Steve Wilson.

The Hull-born keeper made a number of fine saves to keep the hosts at bay - including a great stop from a Michael Proctor penalty.

York made a late breakthrough with on-loan striker Proctor making up for his earlier spot kick miss by stroking the ball past a helpless Wilson in the closing stages.

Wilson looked like he was going to be a source of permanent frustration for Proctor, reacting quickly to a 30th minute long-range effort.

This followed an early chance for the Silkmen, when Lee Glover forced a great stop from on-loan keeper Alan Fettis.

Wilson produced a 38th minute save from Lee Bullock's blast before Proctor missed a great chance with two minutes remaining of the half - the target man miscuing wildly from just six yards out.

Macclesfield were also in the hunt. A Rickie Lambert free kick went wide before the Merseysider's looping header forced a great fingertip save from Fettis.

Fettis proved equal to a further effort from Lambert - a curling, 25-yard effort was palmed to safety.
