Silkmen fan reveals his true colours at wedding

SOCCER: Silkmen fan Alexis Conway sprung a surprise on his wedding day - by whipping off his groom's jacket to reveal Macclesfield Town colours.

The former King's School student, who moved to London from Prestbury 11 years ago, had his name and wedding date splashed across his back in the style of a football shirt - surprising friends and family who had travelled south for the occasion.

Alexis, 29, said: "I'm not football crazy, I'm just a loyal fan. I would be surprised if I was the first to do this at their wedding.

"Some were Macc fans and were very impressed."

Dad John Conway, of Ashbrook Drive in Prestbury, said: "The shirt was revealed at the reception after the speeches.

"He looked completely conventional until he took the jacket off."

Bride-to-be Louise, 30, wrote in secret to Macclesfield Town earlier this year asking for a surprise gesture.

Former King's School student Alexis, who studied Geography at the University College London, explained: "She wrote to Moss Rose and asked them for a telegram or something on the day of our wedding.

"I was absolutely shocked when they sent a fully signed shirt."

Colin Garlick, chief executive of Macclesfield Town, said Alexis' gesture was that of a true Silkmen fan.

He said: "We were very pleased to see how he showed this loyalty.

"It isn't everybody who would do that on their wedding day."

The newlyweds went to Silkmen matches together after they met four years ago through working at the same school.

Alexis, who is now deputy head of Hackbridge School in London, said he wanted to keep up with his favourite team and impress his new bride at the same time.

He said: "When Macc played at a nice town like Torquay or Bournemouth, we would have a romantic weekend away. It worked out really well."
