Cup within Elkin's grasp

MOTORSPORT: The MRO 125cc National Cup is now well within the grasp of Macclesfield rider Christian Elkin.

With just two meetings of the season remaining, Elkin faces a critical race at Snetterton on September 9.

The 20-year-old retained his lead in the championship by taking first place at Cadwell Park last weekend.

His cruise to victory was his second this month stretching his lead in the competition to a modest 20 points with a total of 145.

Should Elkin make it three in a row, the cup will be his unless his closest rival, Steve Patrickson, comes second.

Last year he set the course lap record but multiple British Champion Patrickson is known to be quick around the course.

Elkin's teammate James Ford currently holds 12th place on the leaderboard with 33 points.
