Another win for Poynton

CRICKET: Timperley 152-9 Poynton 157-2

For the second successive week, Poynton won by eight wickets, and this victory at Timperley takes their unbeaten run to seven matches.

Early on, Poynton's bowlers suffered a certain amount of punishment at the hands of opener Tom Twinney.

Still only 17, Twinney batted superbly, displaying excellent timing and placement of his strokes, and had taken his innings to 73 off 78 deliveries when he edged the bowling of Mike Dobbyn to slip to be fourth out with the team's score only 100.

It was to prove to be a key moment in the match as the remaining Timperley batsmen struggled to 152 for nine.

Dave Watkins bowled unchanged throughout the innings to finish with the excellent return of 6-52 from 25 overs, which takes his season's total to 41 wickets.

Dobbyn claimed two victims with Tim Reynolds getting one wicket.

After a couple of early scares, Brian Kingham and Steve Douglas began to establish a stranglehold over the Timperley attack.

Once again the pair batted extremely well, in particular when they took the score from 31 after ten overs to 69 after 17.

The stand had reached 96 before Douglas played on, having just completed his third half-century of the season.

Kingham was second out for 63 with 31 required, before Watkins and Nick Cantello completed the task.

David Cain was the pick of the home side's attack with 1-29 from 13 overs, but this was undeniably Poynton's day.

Poynton will be at home to Hale Barns on Saturday with only three games of the 2001 campaign remaining.
