Pratt shows the harriers the way home

ATHLETICS: The Cheshire 10km road championships were run over a flatish course at Birchwood but the Macclesfield team failed to reach their usual standards.

The weather was still, muggy and rather airless so good times were out of the question.

John Pratt lead the Macclesfield team home with a time of 34.33 (16th), not up to his usual top class form.

Rachel Pleeth was next home in 92nd place in 39.25, again a minute or so below her season's best.

Peter Nolan staggered in at 40.46 (120th) then, to prove that he too can go for a second traumatic event of the day, shot off to watch United. Sharon Caile completed the Macclesfield quartet with 43.28 (205th).

On Friday evening the West Cheshire 5km road race will be run from the County Sports Club in Upton, Chester starting at 7.15pm.

On Monday afternoon (1pm) and again on Tuesday evening (6.30pm) there are track meets at Trafford, all ages on Monday with over 15s only on Tuesday.
