Kilner looking to boost squad

COUNTY manager Andy Kilner says he still wants two more new recruits.

The manager has made no secret of his intention to strengthen his defence and midfield, at a time when he is trying to capture Blackburn Rovers' utility player Simon Grayson.

He said: "We still hope to add at least two players to the squad.

"I felt that the squad at the back end of last season was strong - although naturally we would have taken back any of the players we have sold. But the signings we made settled in well.

"We're always looking to build though. At the start of the summer we wanted to bring in three or four players to give us strength in depth.

"We need to increase competition in the middle of the park, and we need maybe one more defender.

"But it's just a question of whether the quality we are looking for is available."

County's players are now in their second week of training, and step up their preparations with a game at North West Counties League side St Helens Town tomorrow (Thursday) night.

The Hatters then travel to Finland, where they will play four games in six days.

It will be another new experience for many of the County players after their ground-breaking tour of China in May.

Kilner said: "I've been there on a few occasions, and we're all looking forward to it.

"It's new ground for the club, and it will be a new experience for a lot of the players."
