The perils of parking
27/ 2/2001
SOCCER: Lee Glover explains that some Macc players should drive a tank when it comes to away games.
Three wins in a week have changed the whole outlook of the squad.
A week ago, we were just looking to get safe. Now with a good run of results, we are getting nosebleeds in mid-table.
We will try to keep it going. As the saying goes, a week is a long time in football.
As you are probably aware, for away games we get picked up at various points on the way to the match.
This is to help the lads, as only a couple live in Macc.
Sometimes you have to leave your car in places you would rather not.
A recent away game was a prime example.
Dave Ridler left his car in a DIY superstore car park.
Off he went to the match, gave his normal accomplished performance and returned to find the barrier down! Oh sugar.
He could leave the car where it was and come back the next day, but then it would probably be minus a stereo, wheels and furry dice.
He scanned the surrounding foliage looking for a gap.
There was a gap between some shrubs, an escape route.
Across the grass he went wheels spinning, kicking up mud and destroying the odd daisy.
Eventually he was back on Her Majesty's highway, never to park there again. He never did like DIY!
Moral of the story: if you're unsure of where to park, go to the ground or drive a tank!
As we enter the last ten games of the season, it is important we try to consolidate our position in the top half of the league.
This will give us something to build on for next season.
Confidence is a big part of football and it has been returning to the team in recent performances.
Let's enjoy the last games of the season. Get behind us as always. It's appreciated.
