Moss ponders Stockport raid

20/ 2/2001

SOCCER: David Moss is considering a raid on his old club Stockport County as he prepares to build a new squad.

Moss, who spent two-and-a-half seasons as Andy Kilner's assistant at Edgeley Park, is keeping a close eye on County's youth set-up.

And with County boss Carlton Palmer looking to release many of his players, Moss is ready to take on any he feels can do a job at the Moss Rose.

It is likely that his shopping list will include a goalkeeper to challenge Steve Wilson for the grey jersey.

Moss told fans at last week's 'Meet the Manager' forum that he did not feel he could keep both Wilson and Lee Martin at the club - but added that Wilson was his first choice.

County's 21-year-old third-choice keeper Sam Turner - who signed for County from Charlton when Moss was assistant manager - could be a summer target.

Moss said: "I'm watching all sorts of football at the moment.

"I've watched Stockport County two or three times recently.

"I'm on the lookout for good young players who can make us a better squad."
