Di Canio to miss Macc cup clash?

SOCCER: Paolo di Canio is a big doubt for the FA Cup clash at the Moss, following news that England midfielder Michael Carrick is already ruled out.

West Ham visit Macclesfield for a sold out third round clash on Sunday, which will be the biggest game the Silkmen have seen in years.

Captain di Canio missed out on Tuesday's league game at Leeds and the club's official website is now casting doubt the Italian will make the trip to Moss Rose due to a niggling hamstring injury.

Commenting on the Leeds-West Ham game, the club website reports, 'Glenn Roeder turned his attention to the upcoming FA Cup game with Macclesfield Town, and brought off Jermain Defoe and Frederic Kanoute, perhaps an indication that Paulo Di Canio may not be fit in time for that game.'

Hammers manager Glenn Roeder confirmed after the Leeds game that Michael Carrick will not feature at Moss Rose due to a knee injury.

Carrick's place will be taken by John Moncur, with Kanoute and Defoe the likely pairing upfront.

Macclesfield go into the clash with good and bad news.

Dario Gradi has given manager Dave Moss permission to play experienced defender Steve Macauley, who is on loan from Crewe Alexandra.

However, Bolton have again denied the Silkmen the services of winger Jeff Smith - on an extended loan from the Premiership outfit - in the cup.

Macclesfield go into the game refreshed after the New Year's Day game at Scunthorpe was postponed.
