Fab four in top three

MACCLESFIELD and District Riding Club’s juniors had a fantastic result in the national finals.

The Macc riders came third at the 2008 British Riding Club National Show Jumping Finals held at Lincoln Show Ground.

Around 80 competitors, from all parts of the United Kingdom, gathered for the event, with the local representatives competing against 18 other teams.

MDRC’s team - Nicola Booth riding Jayne’s Pride, Nikki Moores on Contraflow, Olivia Arrowsmith riding Stroller and Holly Neat on Bowhaylands Mix n’ Match - were in great form despite the wet ground and were one of four teams that had a clear first round.

This took them to a nail-biting jump-off but luck wasn’t with the Macclesfield team and a couple of unlucky poles going down put them in third. However, their performance will be long remembered as the best showing the club has ever had at national level.

Once the team results were finalised, all of the 32 individual riders that had achieved clears went into a jump-off for individual placings.

Two of the Macclesfield team put in exceptional performances, as Arrowsmith posted a fast time to come third individually, and Booth rode a well judged round to come in seventh place.

The only senior representative at this year’s championships was Jo Sotheran riding Borderline Delinquent, competing as an individual in the Senior Novice Class, with approximately 120 competitors.

Despite a fine performance, she narrowly missed out on a top 10 place in the testing weather and ground conditions.

The club’s next team event will see teams competing at Aintree Equestrian Centre in late October to try to win back the title of North West Champion of Champion Team Show Jumpers.
