Graeme's track hat-trick

MACCLESFIELD racing driver Graeme Smith has won his third national motor racing title in a row.
Smith, aged 37, notched up the hat-trick at Anglesey racing circuit last weekend, with three rounds of the "Caterham Graduates" championship still to go.
Driving his Caterham 7 sports car against a grid of other identical cars, Smith (pictured left) had a win and a second-place in Wales, enough to ensure that none of his fellow competitors can beat his points tally at the remaining rounds at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire and Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.
The championship win caught him by surprise: "I only figured I’d won when I got home and calculated the points after the weekend," he said.
"I didn’t realise that I could take the championship with so many races to go - it’s always gone down to the last race before."
The highlights of his season were wins at Rockingham, Castle Combe, Brands Hatch, two at Silverstone and Mallory Park as well as Anglesey.
Smith also took time out to compete in the Dutch historic series at the infamous Nurburgring Nordschleife in Germany, where he took a very respectable third place overall and a class win.
The 15-mile former Grand Prix circuit was abandoned by Formula One in the late 1970s after Niki Lauda’s near-fatal crash.
