Moss Rose to host showpiece women's season opener

MACC Town’s Moss Rose will host the Women’s Community Shield match tomorrow (Thurs).

Some of the biggest stars in women’s football will be on display for the FA Tesco Women’s Community Shield game between Arsenal Ladies and Everton which kicks off at 7.45pm on August 7.

England internationals Faye White, Fara Williams, Jill Scott and Kelly Smith, who scored four goals at last year’s World Cup, are all expected to feature.

Macc chairman Mike Rance said: "We are delighted to have been chosen to host the FA Tesco Women’s Community Shield at the Moss Rose. Women’s football is ever popular and we have our own affiliated ladies club with eight teams.

"We hope to see many families from around the North West supporting what will undoubtedly be a fun occasion."

Chief executive Patrick Nelson added: "The FA put out a request to see which clubs would be interested in staging this game and we were delighted to put forward our intention to do so.

"We want to use Macclesfield to bring football to as wide an audience as possible.

"Having a prestigious game such as this at the Moss Rose will showcase Macclesfield Town to the whole country."

Arsenal and Everton’s ladies sides last met in 2006 at Crewe’s Gresty Road stadium when Arsenal, one of the world’s most decorated women’s teams, won 3-0.

Tickets for the game cost £5 for adults and £2.50 for children and concessions.

Groups of 15 or more can take advantage of an FA discount with tickets at £3 for adults and £2 concessions.
