Jean takes President's Cup

AT MACCLESFIELD Bowling Club, 24 members took to the green for the 2008 President’s Cup.

Four teams, each comprising six players, competed in a round-robin format, with the four winners in each group progressing to the semi-finals.

They were Jan Gates, Mary Serafi, Jean Wrench and Brian Ryalls.

After seven hours of high-quality play on one of the hottest days of the year, it was agreed that the tournament would conclude the following day.

The first semi-final pitted Ryalls against Wrench and the last four’s sole male representative battled to a 9-2 lead.

After Wrench was able to take control of the jack, she pulled off an impressive turnaround to lead 13-9 and eventually take a 15-11 victory.

The second semi-final saw Gates open up an 8-3 lead over Serafi but, in another startling fightback, Serafi booked her spot in the final with a 15-9 win.

In the final, Wrench bowled numerous excellent leads and was a worthy 15-5 victor.

President of the Victoria Road club, Les Foster, said: "Congratulations to all the entrants for competing in an excellent tournament."
