FIVE members of Satellite Swimming Club are to compete in the National Age Group and Youth Championships at Ponds Forge, Sheffield later this month.

Fourteen-year-old Sam Barratt qualified in eight events, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle, 100m and 200m Butterfly, 200m and 400m Individual Medley.

Katie Bennett, aged 12, has qualified in 200m and 400m Individual Medley, 200m Backstroke, 200m Butterfly and 800m Freestyle.

This is the second consecutive year that Sam and Katie have qualified for the National event.

Johnathan Lowe, aged 13, has qualified in the 100m and will compete in the 200m Backstroke together with Jonathan Eagle, the first team either has taken part in the Championships.

Also taking part for the first time is 14-year-old Alice Bailey, who will be competing in the Youth Championships held later in the week, and qualified in the 400m and 800m Freestyle.

It has been a hugely successful year at the Macclesfield Club, spearheaded by the outfit holding on to their Premier League status in the Speedo League.

This was followed by many Satellite swimmers achieving podium positions in the Cheshire Championships.

The Club held its Annual Open Meet in May at Macclesfield Leisure Centre which was opened by Sir Nicholas Winterton and supported by local sponsors RH Stevens Ltd (Macclesfield) and a number of other local businesses.

Twenty-four clubs from across the region attend the event, which gives swimmers the chance to gain both regional and National qualifying times.
