Langley fold in sorry Saughall loss

Langley entertained a young Saughall side at the weekend and were comprehensiveley outplayed by their opponents.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat on a good, dry wicket, a decision that looked to have backfired as Langley reduced them to 28-2 off 12 overs.

Frame took the opening wicket in the second over with the aid of a good slip catch by Hollinshead and Berzins bowling Salisbury for six.

However, Saughall took control with the aid of some poor bowling and sloppy fielding, racking up 250-4 off 46 overs before declaring with three batsman scoring 50s.

The bowling was sloppy with Hollinshead (two for 67), Frame (one for 21) and Berzins (one for 69) taking the wickets.

In reply, Langley started brightly with Don Gregory and Tim Laughton putting on 29 in six overs before Gregory was out for seven.

Johnson and Laughton continued the good work, taking the score to 77 before Johnson (25) and Laughton (51) fell in consecutive overs.

Stevens then hit 30 off just 20 balls before being caught behind and, at 117-4, Langley still had a chance.

However the lower order, that had been so productive in recent weeks, saw six batsmen fall for only three runs, leaving the reliable Hollinshead stranded on 47 as Langley collapsed to 173 all out, losing the match by 77 runs.

Langley travel to Heaton Mersey next week and must put in a better performance in all departments.
