MACCLESFIELD Harriers were among 300 runners who took part in the five-and-a-half mile Wincle Trout Run last Saturday.

First Macclesfield Harrier to finish the gruelling fell run was John Mooney, who completed the race in 18th position, in a time of 46 minutes 38 seconds.

Sixteen-year-old Andrew Mothershaw, competing in the Trout Run for the first time, ran a tremendous race coming in 41st overall, in 50.41.

He was the third Harrier to finish, 25 minutes ahead of his dad Mark.

Overall winner was 2007 English Fell Running Champion and local farmer, Simon Bailey, with a commanding lead of more than three-and-a-half minutes.

First lady was Anna Frost, an international mountain runner from New Zealand, with the best performance ever by a lady Trout Runner. She came in sixth place overall.

Fifty-two young runners from across the country tried their hand at fell racing in the demanding two-mile junior race.

Fifteen-year-old Jack Ross of SMAC led the field almost from the start, finishing with a commanding 31-second lead over Daniel Lawton of Stockport Harriers.

Shannon Johnson of Leigh Harriers led the girls in.

Congleton Harriers won the team trophy.
