Izzy’s Euro mission

2/ 4/2008

RAINOW football star Isobel Christiansen will represent England in their search for European glory.

The 16-year-old is a valuable member of the England squad that, this week, returned from their successful group campaign in the Czech Republic to earn a place in the UEFA Under-17 Championship last four.

The young star joined Manchester United’s junior section at the age of eight and, after the Old Trafford team folded, joined Everton.

She has made excellent progress through the Under-15 squad and has become an invaluable member of the national side’s midfield.

She said: "I’m looking forward to it. Now that we’ve won the group, we will play France in about six weeks.

"I went for a trial for England a few years ago and joined the Under-15s. I’m looking to get involved in the Under-19 team next and see where that takes me."

England’s goalless draw with Holland in their final group match was enough to see them top their group after winning their opener against the hosts and then beating Belgium.

Christiansen and her Three Lions team-mates will face France in their semi-finals at the Colovray Stadium in Nyon, Switzerland, on May 20.

Denmark and the winner of the other group, which consists of Germany, Poland, Sweden and Switzerland, will contest the other semi-final.

The top three finishers will qualify for the inaugural FIFA World Under-17 Championships in New Zealand, which kicks off in October.
