With half of the league season now completed, Macclesfield director of rugby Geoff Wappett has high hopes for his side’s chances of success.

The Blues reached sixth place with victory at Cinderford last Saturday, and Wappett enters the second half high in confidence in what his men can achieve.

"We know a lot more now about every team in League One and what we’ve got to face for the rest of the season," he said. "No one in this league is awesome, every team is beatable.

"I still think Jersey are the team to beat, even though they’re fourth now, but there’s no team that stands out head and shoulders above everyone else.

"We’re definitely capable of beating everybody."

Wappett has had to contend with a number of injuries and absences in recent weeks but even though Jack Moorhouse won the plaudits in Saturday’s win at Cinderford, the coach was delighted with his half-back pairing.

"Tom Eaton played very well at scrum-half," he added. "And with Ross Winney at fly-half, we had a good pair there.

"Ross is excellent with the boot, making conversions.

"It’s much better when we’re scoring in multiples of seven than in multiples of five, and that’s an extra advantage he gives us."

The Blues host Stourbridge this Saturday (ko 3pm) with the aim of completing a double over the Midlands side.

"We’ve got to get our attitude right," continued Wappett. "Logic tells you that we have a good chance of taking the five points but they’re on a bit of a revival, and they’re a dangerous side."
