Macclesfield ran in 11 tries in a 73-3 rout against Dudley Kingswinford to extend their lead at the top of the table.

Pacey Blues winger Matt King got his team off to the ideal start, grabbing himself a brace of tries inside the opening six minutes.

Tom Mantell was dragged over by a rumbling driving maul 10 minutes later, giving the hosts a 21-point lead after the opening quarter.

Midway through the first half Kieran Pinches kicked a simple three points for the visitors, but that was to be the first and last time Dudley would trouble the scorers. Macclesfield’s bonus point was wrapped up inside half an hour and it came from the power of the Blues pack.

They pushed over from a five-metre scrum with number eight Frankie Barker handed the simple task of controlling the ball and falling on it over the line.

With 10 minutes left in the half, King rounded off his hat-trick thanks to a lovely break from young scrum-half George Baxter, who fed King with little to do other than touch down.

As the clock ticked towards half-time it became merely a question of how many points Macclesfield would win by, and there was time for one more try before the interval.

The pack showed their dominance with another powerful driving maul on the stroke of the half, this time Dave Marwick was the man to claim the five-pointer. That try meant the score at the break was 40-3 in favour of the hosts.

Marwick was at it again shortly after the break as the Blues showed no signs of taking their foot off the pedal. The second row dived over from close range to claim his second try of the game.

In the 55th minute Tom Davenport took it upon himself to crash over for a try after the forwards had continually battered the Dudley try line.

He ran hard and direct in carrying some tired defenders over with him and the visitors’ resolve appeared diminished.

Marwick then turned provider for the ninth try.

He broke through the tackle and managed to off-load to Ashley Platt-Hughes who rounded the full-back nicely for his score.

Elliot Brierley carved through the defence and left a handful of would-be tacklers in his wake to score the penultimate try, before Ed Stobart ended the scoring, crossing five minutes from time.

In the end the dominant Blues ran out 73–3 winners.

This week the Blues travel to Stourbridge to take on their closest rivals, who themselves continued their unbeaten run by beating Leicester Lions 20-3.

Elsewhere in the club, the Lions won 63-22 at Burnage, while the third team were also on the road, against Whitchurch, but lost 43-0.

Back at Priory Park, the fourths beat Old Bedians 25-22.
