Macclesfield Rugby Club’s Under 11 team capped an amazing season of success with a shared title at Twickenham.

The lads travelled to the home of rugby, the scene of the senior first team’s recent National League Champions Cup final victory, for the finals of the Nottingham Festival.

Making their way through the group stages, they faced Amersham and Chiltern in the semi-final and, in damp conditions, Macc opened the score line.

In the second half Amersham were determined to equalise and, after displaying some excellent rugby, did so to ensure the match ended even at 1-1.

It was, however, Macclesfield who progressed to the final to meet Old Northamptonians as they had scored more points in the tournament overall.

The final saw heavy rain come down but that didn’t stop both sides from putting on a high quality encounter, dominated by strong defences.

With neither side able to make the breakthrough, the match finished in a scoreless draw and the two teams were both declared winners.

The Macc squad also took part in the Parade of Champions at half-time in the Guinness Premiership final as they had won the Sale Sharks hosted Guinness Premiership Land Rover Cup at the beginning of May.

In an unforgettable experience, all the Priory Park supporters joined the team and their coaches for a lap around Twickenham in front of 80,000 fans.

It completed the squad’s best-ever season which saw them win six titles, including the Cheshire Cup.
