Following five Saturdays without a game the Blues turned in a near-perfect display to demolish Broadstreet.

In doing so Macc retained their second spot in the table as, over on the Wirral, Caldy halted the progress of the Students to make it all the more interesting as the season resumed.

From a first-minute scrum Jon Keep clinically scored the first try of the game before Street got on the board through Dan Richards’ penalty.

Both sides then tested each other in an even period of play but try number two came via prop Martin Kent who crashed over wide out.

Ross Winney’s conversion kick went short for the second time and the Richards kept the score close with his second penalty.

Winney did add a penalty for Macc and with the interval beckoning centre Tony Howcroft showed his strength to go over the line following a scrum. Winney’s conversion sent the Blues in for interval drinks a comfortable 20-6 ahead.

With the mist hanging over a dank Priory Park the Blues played probably the best 40 minutes of rugby played by the side this season, scoring a further six tries without reply from the stretched Street side.

It began following a 70-metre venture into the Street half and then a line-out break from back rower Evan Stewart, who handed on to lock Matt Owen to touch down.

A try-of-the-season came via skipper Winney’s dive over the line to strecth the lead to 32-6 it was all over for Street who simply had no response to the Blues.

Further tries came to Evan Stewart, Howcroft – after a trademark unstoppable burst through the middle – Richard Hughes and finally lock Alan Marsh, three of which Winney converted to complete a comprehensive victory.

It was a complete ‘team’ performance, well marshalled by man-of-the-match, scrum-half Tom Eaton.

Following the game rugby operations manager Brendan Thomas said: "It was pleasing to have that scoreline and it was a culmination of hard work in the gym, led by Guy with contact sessions on the field with Geoff and Andy.

"This, plus the hunger of the players to get out there, combined to see errors and some poor decisions in the first half but after the break it all came together for a good victory."
