Macclesfield Lions returned to winning ways with an emphatic win at home to Broughton Park.

The visitors provided stiff opposition throughout, particularly in the first half with the wind at their back, but the Lions played to their potential and won by a comfortable margin.

The game didn’t get off to the best of starts for the Lions as some poor tackling contributed to an early try which became 10-0 with a penalty on 15 minutes.

The Lions responded with a try for Chris Rawles, converted by Ian Roberts. However, after 25 minutes, Park capitalised on some good clearance kicks to build pressure, which resulted in a well worked try.

Again the Lions responded and a fine break by Rick Chadwick enabled Rawles to score his second try. As the half came to a close, an excellent counter attack led to a Roberts try that gave the Lions a two-point lead at the break.

With conditions in their favour the Lions put in an impressive second half performance.

After an early siege led to a converted penalty try to Macc, Park replied with a penalty goal on one of their few sorties into the Lions half.

Four unanswered tries at regular intervals then sealed the game for the home side. Martin Rosser scored after 55 minutes, quickly followed by Dan Brocklehurst. After 65 minutes skipper Guy Mason made a wonderful break to put in second half substitute Scott Goodfellow.

The final score of the game was a fine individual try from James Keep, who ‘slalomed’ in. Roberts converted to give a final score of 46-18.

This was a good performance from the Lions as they enter a critical part of the season and all the players made positive contributions.

Next week the Lions travel to Stockport.
