The pride of the rough, tough men of Macclesfield RUFC took a battering in the club’s annual Boobs vs Balls charity event.

The four-team tournament, pitting the gentlemen against the ladies’s sides was won by the ‘Boobs’ – with a little help from official Brendan Thomas.

"Brendan was a little bit lenient with the ladies and much stricter on the boys if I’m honest," revealed event organiser Mandy Keogh. "It was an amazing day and the girls won the final by five tries to four, so Nick Smith, who’s just gone a whole season unbeaten as captain of the third team, was a bit gutted!"

With bucketloads of donations from the Macclesfield Beer festival-goers, the total raised for three charities, the East Cheshire Hospice, Breast Cancer Campaign and the Prostate Cancer Charity.

"We had a great turnout, with hundreds taken on the gate and donations from lots at the festival, and they brought some jugs of beer over for the players too, but they didn’t last long.

"We hope that with the gate money, shirt money from the players, the raffle and collections we’ll beat last year’s total.

"Cancer is one of those things that affects just about everyone and given the nature of the Boobs vs Balls day we felt it was fitting to support these three worthy causes."

SPECIAL 2013 calendars, proceeds from which are split between the three charities, are still available from Arighi Bianchi, Olympus Trophies and Priory Park, or by visiting the appeal’s website at www.boobsvsballs.org.uk
