Despite two straight losses, Macclesfield director of rugby Geoff Wappett insists that his squad has the ability to be successful this season.

The Blues lost to an injury-time try against Rosslyn Park on Saturday, the first time in Wappett’s four-year reign that Macc haven’t bounced back from a loss.

"Like anything in sport, it’s just fine margins that were the difference," said Wappett. "We’ve a problem in the middle of the field, we’re leaking points but we’re working hard and all our thinking is going into remedying that."

The Blues did collect two bonus points and with six sides on five wins and three losses, the bonuses keep Macclesfield in second place.

"We’re scoring tries and taking the opportunites we create," added Wappett. "It was disappointing to lose so late on but we’re one of the top scorers, it’s just that our defence in midfield is getting undone.

"But it’s not a time where you’d stick your head in the gas oven, we deserved to win on Saturday so the last thing we’ll start to do is worry or panic."
