MACCLESFIELD’S Priory Park is to host next month’s Manchester Rugby Sevens tournament.

The club, in partnership with Bthere Events, has won the right to stage its first-ever Sevens competition, in which thousands of teams, from as far afield as France, Germany, Malta and Portugal will compete.

Some of the best home-grown talent around will also be in action in Macclesfield for what is sure to be an action-packed weekend with something for all the family.

The French National Sevens team and a number of Sale Sharks are expected to attend, to help with coaching activities for children, as well as showing off their skills.

Events planned for the three-day festival include the International Invitation Cup and the Legends of the game, and teams from the British Army, Les Bleus, Sale Sharks, Adidas Marauders and Samurai International will be gunning for glory.

Macclesfield also have a team entered in the competition and they’ll be hoping to benefit from home field advantage.

Charities Wooden Spoon and SOS Kit Aid will be the Manchester Rugby Sevens beneficiaries.

The games kick off at 5pm on Friday, July 10, with the International Invitational final scheduled to begin at 7pm on Sunday, July 12.

Admission is £10, under-12s get in for free.
