MODEST Manchester Grammar School rugby star Ollie Chambers has been selected for the North of England under-16 side.
The 16-year-old scrum-half from Chelford has been a pivotal figure in the MGS first team all season, even though he is two years younger than the majority of his team mates and still reading for his GCSEs.
However, he is realistic about his own skills: "I need to work on my passing, my speed, my tackling and my upper body strength," he said.
Steve Swindells, MGS First XV coach and also the coach at Manchester RUFC, said: "Ollie is a cracking lad and that appreciation of his own talents is typical of the young man.
"To have played such a key role in our season, when he is still so much younger than his team-mates, shows the quality of his character and talent."
Chambers’ outstanding performances have seen MGS win seven and lose six of their 13 first team fixtures this season on the tough Northern schools’ circuit.
He is already playing for Manchester under-16s and aiming to study Mathematics, Chemistry, Geography and Economics in the MGS Sixth Form next year and ultimately he hopes to go up to University College London.
Chambers added: "I would obviously like to play at as high a level as possible, but it’s a huge step up to professional rugby.
"My only ambition at the moment is to take the next step to the England under-16s."
