Macclesfield have made an encouraging start to life in National League One, with eight games and seventh place negotiated.

The Blues sit happily in mid-table and have performed well so far and, having secured impressive wins against Coventry and Blaydon and put in a superb performance against much-fancied Cambridge, there is much to be positive about.

Director of rugby Geoff Wappett is certainly happy with the season so far but is also very much aware of the task that they have ahead.

"The lads are playing right at the top of their game at the moment and we’ve achieved some great results," he enthused. "We’re going to have bad days, Cinderford was one and Wharfedale was another, but that’s only two disappointments in eight games, and if we can build on that we’ll be fine."

Having gained promotion last season to step up to a very impressive standard of rugby, the Priory Park side have not been fazed. Against the two top sides in the division, they drew with Cambridge and only narrowly lost at Barking, where many would argue they should have won the game.

The Blues have shown so far that they are more than capable of playing at this high level, though they are well aware that many clubs have been promoted before them and then gone straight back down.

"I think the boys have really responded well to the step up," added Wappett. "More so than some teams in recent years that have been promoted and found it tough and gone straight back to where they came from."

All this considered there a number of reasons to be encouraged and, if the team can keep improving and continue their current form, then all signs point to another year in National League One and a bright future for the club.
