Macclesfield Rugby Club’s fine start to the season got back on track as they recovered from last week’s defeat to beat Barking.

The bonus-point win – their fourth from five games – continued their record of never losing two in a row under Geoff Wappett.

"The director of rugby said: "We’ve recovered from the disappointment against Blaydon and got back on the horse.

"They’re a good set who respond well to the hard work I put them through and we got six tries so we just need to maintain these high standards."

Currently third, Macc have created a six-point gap between themselves and Saturday’s opponents, Cambridge, who are fifth on points difference and Wappett is confident that, if they can work their hosts hard by keeping possession, they can come away with the victory.

"We’ll have our work cut out as they’ve won their last three, they’re starting to play a bit," he added.

"They’re a good side and it’s a wealthy set-up. They lost their first two matches but since then they have won three.

"They can be devastating so we’ll work hard at keeping the ball and take our chances when they do come."
