MACCLESFIELD Harriers put in a great team performance at the recent Cheshire County Track Relay Championships.

On a day when the rain stayed away, Cheshire teams and several guest teams competed at the Macclesfield track.

The Harriers brought home five gold and three bronze medals, and set three new county records at the home event.

In the sprint relays the Under-11 boys and girls teams gained their first taste of competition and managed to field four teams in the finals, gaining a fifth, seventh and two eighth places.

The Under-13 girls team of Grace Ifere, Grace Hatton, Laura Venables and Danielle Wallis ran a time of 59.6sec in the sprint final to pick up the bronze medal while the B team finished fifth in 61.2. The Under-15 boys A team ran a time of 51.1 to claim another sprint bronze.

The performance of the day came from the Under-17 men's sprint team - Rob Blake, James Carey, Alex Ranshaw and Stuart Price - who equalled the championship record of 45.3 and smashed the Macclesfield club record on their way to winning team gold.

In the distance relays, the Under-13 girls, Rosie Christianson, Louise Heron and Danielle Wallis, ran strongly to win in 8min 00.6sec.

The Under-15 boys trio of Daniel Bunce, Callum Murray and Lloyd Hilton ran a superb championship best of 6.40.6, taking 35 seconds off the old record.

The Under-15 girls Alice Heron, Beth Chasty and Lucy Bunce ran a brave race against strong opposition to secure the bronze medal.

In the Under-15 medley relays, Ellie Williams, Alix Barton, Lucy Bunce and Elin Pike won a further bronze in a club record 2.46.5.

Adding to the medal winning junior teams were the veteran women's sprinters who won in another championship record time of 64.0s. The senior ladies medley relay team also took gold.
