MACC Town chairman Mike Rance is predicting big things from Keith Alexander’s new-look squad this season.

As pre-season preparations come to a close and all thoughts turn to the season’s opening day, Rance is looking forward to a strong start as the Silkmen look to contend with Cobblers, Swedes and Foxes.

A tricky opener sees Keith Alexander’s men take on Northampton Town on Saturday, with the Carling Cup first-round tie against Leicester City a few days later.

Notts County’s eyebrow-raising appointment of Sven Goran Eriksson as director of football has added more spice as the big-spending Magpies’ first away match will be at the Moss Rose on August 15.

"Interest in Notts County’s first away fixture is already high," said Rance (pictured left). "I’m interested to see how Sven handles the pressure of operating in the very different world of League Two football.

"We made some major changes to the squad over the summer.

"Inevitably we have to operate on a limited budget but Keith has done a great job in bringing in some exciting new faces, including a good balance of youth and experience and the squad seems to be gelling nicely.

"Add in the fact that the youngsters like Izak Reid and John Rooney coming through our own ranks will be that much stronger and more experienced this year and I think we’ll surprise a few of the big spenders. It would be brilliant to start by beating Sven."
