THREE star swimmers enjoyed a family affair at the recent Macclesfield Amateur Swimming Club (MASC) gala.

Thomas, Rachel and Elliot Kirton brought home a fine haul of trophies from this year’s annual MASC event.

Eight-year-old Thomas won the Under-10 25-metre backstroke and the David Carruthers Memorial Trophy, to add to his Whitelaw Family Cup from last year’s gala.

His elder brother Elliot won the same event in the Under-12 category.

Ten-year-old Elliot received the David Carruthers Centenary Cup for the second time.

The Rainow students’ sister Rachel entered the Under-14s’ 50-metre freestyle for girls and the 100-metre borough breastroke championship for ladies.

In both events she was narrowly pipped to the post and came second in both.

However, the 12-year-old, who attends Tytherington High School, did win the Maurice Heapy Memorial Cup at the previous MASC gala.

The children’s mother, Lorraine, said: "I’m pleased for them, they work hard and enjoy the sport.

"They have all won many trophies and medals over these years and their swimming continues to improve. We’re grateful to all those at the MASC who do a tremendous job."
