Blackpool Wren Rovers 1
Macclesfield Town Ladies 1

MACCLESFIELD Ladies came back from the long trip to the seaside with a deserved point against an in-form Blackpool side.

In the first half, Macc failed to make best use of a really strong wind which was in their favour. Nevertheless, forceful play by the Silkgirls had the seasiders on the back foot, but despite several good chances, the half ended goal-less.

In the second half Blackpool capitalised on the weather conditions with Macc now playing into the wind, and took the lead after 20 minutes with a well taken goal.

However, the Silkgirls heads didn't go down, and they gave a typically gutsy performance to gradually force their way back into the game.

Macc's defence of Jo Webb, Katie Hogan and Ellie Stanley were coping well with the Blackpool attacks, and this allowed Sue Lea to be moved into the midfield as Macclesfield pressed in search of the equaliser.

Despite Macc's pressure, time seemed to be running out for them, but the breakthrough came with just 10 minutes left. Jade Treanor added to her "super-sub" reputation when she received the ball on the left and released an unstoppable drive which left the Blackpool 'keeper floundering.

For the remainder of the game, it was Macc in the driving seat and they could have taken all the points. Nevertheless, this was a welcome result after two consecutive defeats and lifts them back into fourth place in the table.

For this match, the Silkgirls welcomed back Tanya Foster after injury. Becky Snelson was voted player of the match and Sue Bassett, making her league debut for the first team, gave a good account of herself when she came on as substitute on the right wing.

  • Macclesfield Ladies under-16s lost 6-3 against their biggest rivals Stone Dominoes.

Player of the match Sophie Thomason scored a first-half penalty, but Stone raced into a 4-1 lead before Bethan Hulley was denied by the woodwork.

Thomason then added her second after good work from Siobahn Eastham.

Dominoes scored a further two goals before Liz Cornish popped up for her first goal for the club.
