MACCLESFIELD cheer squads had plenty of reason for celebration after they enjoyed success at the National Community Championships.

The two Maximum Cheer teams, were placed fourth in their categories, despite a number of members only taking up the sport a matter of months ago.

The Maximum Cheer Gems, aged between six and nine, and the Diamonds (for those aged 10 to 12) put in fine performances in the 150-team meeting to take their places among the top four in Britain.

There was more reward for their efforts as the Maximum Cheer girls won the trophy for displaying the true cheerleading spirit.

"This trophy is for the team which cheers the loudest and shows the most enthusiam, spirit and energy all day long," explained coach Rachael Burrows.

"There were 150 teams taking part and Maximum Cheer won it. It’s an extraordinary achievement, especially considering that the girls were the youngest age groups in the whole competition. I’m just so proud of them all."

Maximum Cheer will be taking part in a massive display at the leisure centre this weekend. Saturday’s event will see the Maximum Cheer and Kings cheer squads, and Macclesfield Trampoline Club, perform their routines to music.

Tickets for the event, which will also see UK Cheerleading and potential Olympic trampolinists in attendance, and will be filmed by British Cheerleading, are priced at £3 (£2 concessions).
