SOCCER: Former Everton junior David Eaton certainly made the most of his re-introduction to Macc Town's starting line-up on Saturday.

The tall Scouse striker earned his recall to the first team - his first start since the trip to Exeter on December 28 - and set the Silkmen on their way to victory with the first goal in a morale-boosting 2-1 victory over Southend United.

He has now scored five goals this season after starting only seven times. That's not a bad return considering the early-season injury problems Eaton suffered.

After the game a delighted Eaton said: "I'm pleased of course, it's always nice to score a goal but it's also a relief.

"It was quite a good finish, I've been doing a bit of practise on my finishing this week with John Askey so it was nice to see the ball go in.

"I only found out that I was starting the game at about half-past-one, the gaffer hadn't said anything to me in the run-up to the game so I was a bit surprised to get the nod.

"Neil Ross has been a big signing for us and has done okay, but it was nice for me to start.

"Football is such a confidence game, we haven't really had a winning feeling for a while.

"We've been in the lead a few times of late, but once we secured the two-goal cushion today, with not long left, it felt good.

"The win will give us a real boost, the dressing room is buzzing right now, everyone is laughing and smiling in there now and it's great.

"We're playing Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday-Tuesday for the next two weeks, so hopefully a few more results like this can help fire us back up the table."
