CHESTER Boughton Hall took what could be a major step towards a third successive Cheshire Women’s League title as they ended the unbeaten record of main rivals Poynton and restricted their opponents to only six bonus points.

One of Chester’s brightest young hopes, Charlotte Thompson, recorded the league’s best figures of recent years with seven wickets for eight runs, clean bowling all her victims.

In a match restricted to 26 overs per side, Poynton were all out in 19 overs for 81, but Poynton made Chester work hard, before they got home with five wickets and two overs in hand.

Victoria Latham top scored for Chester with 23 and Coral Murphy continued her excellent recent form with 3-7 for Poynton.

Unfortunately another wet Sunday saw no play take place anywhere else in the league. Other scheduled matches were Appleton v Hawarden Park and Bowdon v Oakmere in Division One, and Romiley & Dinting v Hyde and Trafford v Neston in division two.

Romiley continue to lead division two by 26 points.
