Police are trying to establish a motive after a man was stabbed in an alleyway in Macclesfield town centre.

A 47-year-old man from Macclesfield was airlifted to hospital with two puncture wounds to his leg after an attack on Saturday morning.

Police were first called to reports of an injured man on Townley Street. A police spokesman said the attack appears to have happened in an alleyway in Park Green near the United Reformed Church and is thought may have involved two offenders.

The victim then made his way to Townley Street where he sought help from passers-by.

Det Insp Claire Jesson said: “It is not clear what the motive for the attack was.

“We are determined to find those responsible and would appeal for anyone with information to contact us on 101.”

Police were called to reports of an injured man on Townley Street at 10.13am.
