Wilmslow Gymnastics Club youngsters brought back a bunch of medals from the Phil Tighe gymnastics competition.

The two-piece floor and vault competition saw Wilmslow enter competitors in the Under-13 and Over-13s at the Copley Centre, Stalybridge.

Despite a training regime of up to two hours per week, they brought back four medals, two gold and two silver.

Beth Woodhead, 11, came second on floor in the Under-13s, while 14-year-old Megan Perry won the Over-13s’ floor exercise.

Gemma Hamilton, aged 15, came first on vault in the Over 13s  and she also came second overall in the competition, deservedly taking the silver.

Other gymnasts taking part were Anna Walton (11), Victoria Barlow (11), Juliette Hill (12) and Chloe Kirkland (12) in the under 13 competition.

Rebecca Williams (14), Sophie Davis (14), Daisy Johnston (15) & Zoe Greenwood (15) completed the over-13 team.

All were well placed and some just short of a bronze medal.

All gymnasts are coached by Francesca Marques and Misha Timmins who along with the gymnasts worked exceptionally hard to reach such a standard.

Head coach Alison Marquessaid: “All our gymnasts did exceptionally well and we are very proud of them, they are an inspiration to our General Gymnastics Club & Gym 4 Tots.

“These results give our other young gymnasts something to aspire to, they exceeded our expectations and we are delighted for them.

“A big thank you goes to the gymnasts, parents and coaches for all their hard work.”
