MBCCL Division One
Wilmslow 169-8
Runcorn 170-4
Runcorn won by six wickets

WILMSLOW paid the price for missed opportunities as they slipped to a six-wicket home defeat against Runcorn at the Rectory Fields.

Batting first on a very damp wicket, Sam Wildsmith (51) and Mike Harris (26) handed the hosts a solid start before John Kilroe and Steve Fulker chipped in with 20 each, but the total of 169 was at least 30 runs short of what was needed.

In reply, Andy Booth (58) and John Weston (48) took advantage of the short boundary and a couple of dropped catches to move Runcorn close to victory, before Ian Williams struck an unbeaten 30 to see the visitors home.

Steve Taylor was the pick of the Wilmslow bowlers after the paceman took all four of the wickets to fall.

A depleted second team lost heavily at Wirral Mersey Park after being bowled out for 91. Only Mike Lees (31) and Mark Green (27) made any sort of contribution, but their total was not enough and the home side cruised to a nine-wicket win.

STYAL'S home clash with Trinity was abandoned without a ball being bowled in the Cheshire Building Society Cricket Alliance division two. WILMSLOW WAYFARERS' game with Disley suffered a similar fate.

But Styal seconds had more luck at Trinity, where Eugene Hutton recorded superb figures of 6-46 as the home side were dismissed for 126.

Styal made light work of their target as Paul Lawday (51) and an unbeaten 47 from the returning Kit Feber secured a second successive victory for a side who only won once last season.

LINDOW suffered a heavy 65-run defeat against Old Parkonians in division three of the Meller Braggins Cheshire Cricket League. Chasing 153 for 3, Lindow struggled to 88 before eventually being dismissed.

But ALDERLEY PARK enjoyed more success as they sealed a 22-point win against bottom-club Holmes Chapel. Park set the hosts 136 for 9, but that proved too many as Holmes Chapel were 84 all out.
