WILMSLOW Wayfarers featured in the Cheshire Cricket Alliance Division Two's only fixture at the weekend.

After being put in to bat, Wayfarers openers Hassard and Homer put on 18 for the first wicket.

Skipper Unsworth came to the crease for the game's pivotal partnership, taking advantage of the short, straight boundaries, bludgeoning three sixes from the opening bowl attack.

With Wilmslow on 111-1, HMV took the pace off the ball and Srikant found immediate success, having Unsworth caught on the boundary for 73.

Hassard completed his maiden half-century before the middle order stuttered and they reached 155-6.

Wayfarers claimed the full batting points available before declaring on 194-9.

After the break, things started well for Wilmslow as Unsworth bowled Bailey in the second over.

Phadke came to the middle with HMV on 25-3 and took the game to the bowlers.

Baldwin bowled Phadke and, at 60-4, the game seemed out of HMV's reach.

Three wickets for Bruce gave Wayfarers 13 overs to take the final three wickets, and they set aggressive fields in the hope that the batsmen would play some risky shots.

However, Padbury (39 not out) and Stones (35 not out) refused to oblige and defended to earn their side a draw.

Wayfarers took 14 points from the match and overtake Disley at the top of the table.

This week, they face a resurgent Glazebury.

  • THE second team's game against Appleton was abandoned.

The Under-18s travel to Heaton Mersey this week for their quarter-final in the Cheshire High Peak League.
