HOCKEY: Wilmslow Ladies travelled to Stafford on Sunday and secured a place in the quarter-finals of the England Hockey Investec Vase.

From the start Wilmslow moved the ball around well with Lily Harrison, Avril Tucker and Fiona Ryan troubling the Stafford defense.

At the other end an assured performance from Sarah Dymond at right-back meant the Stafford attack failed to trouble the visitors’ goal. The score remained 0-0 at half-time, despite Wilmslow dominating the possession.

Determined to make up for missed chances Wilmslow attacked from the restart and Ali Davies converted a chance from a tight angle. Stafford fought back and attacks down the right flank were halted by fine tackles from Molly Wortley.

The home side were awarded a number of penalty corners but the outstanding Charlie Platts and keeper Cat Lang kept them at bay.

Wilmslow held out and will host Milton Keynes in the quarter-finals.
