Tyson Fury says he won’t follow Dereck Chisora’s route by rushing into a fight with the Klitschkos.

The undefeated former British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion is willing to wait for his chance to take on the dominant Ukrainians.

He believes that only when he is mandatory challenger for their world titles will he be able to command the money he deserves to share a ring with Wladimir or Vitali.

"I won’t sell myself down the river for a couple of hundred grand," said Fury. "I’m no one’s fool. I don’t want to just put up a fight and wobble one of the Klitschkos. I want to come home with the ‘w’ and the world title."

The 23-year-old from Wilmslow bids to extend his 18-fight unbeaten run against American Vinny Madalone in Clevedon, Somerset on Saturday night.

But the 5,000-capacity arena will draw in a fraction of the crowd set to turn out for Chisora’s grudge match with David Haye at West Ham’s Upton Park a week later.

Despite his comprehensive points defeat to Fury 12 months ago, Chisora has gone on to fight for the European title against Robert Helenius and WBC king Vitali Klitschko – losing on both occasions.

Fury could also have stepped in with either of the Klitschkos, who hold the WBC, WBO, IBF, IBO and WBA Super titles between them.

But he would have had to take a significantly reduced portion of the purses for what would be a mega money fight.

"Chisora is taking fights that are voluntary defences," said the reigning Irish champion. "I’m not up for voluntary defences after a lifetime’s work.

"We’ve got to wait and take our time. It’s not hard to get a title shot – it’s about getting a mandatory title shot.

"If it’s mandatory then you are talking about millions – it’s life changing money, rather than month changing money.

"I think I will get a world title shot later next year. In boxing you’ve got to wait and keep busy – I’ve been active while waiting in the wings.

"The things I can change are the way I train and prepare for fights – and getting myself up the rankings by winning fights.

He added: "By December I should be mandatory for the WBC title."
